Concerns spark pre-cooked meat recall

A Winnipeg food processor is recalling its pre-cooked meat products after an Alberta customer found contamination concerns.

Smith’s Quality Meats, which sells in provinces from British Columbia to Ontario, has voluntarily pulled a wide variety of its products from shelves testing suggested they may have come into contact with listeria.

“All cooked products are in the process of being removed from store shelves,” said Smith’s spokesman Andy Van Patter in a release.

As a teenager, I babysat for a little girl who regularly snuck into the kitchen, used all of her might to pry open the refrigerator door, and took a few big chugs of juice from the pickle jar before scampering back to the playroom to get back to her Barbies or Etch-a-Sketch or whatever pre-Zhu Zhu Pet toy was popular in the mid-90s.

Five breakfast foods that burn fat fast

I’m always looking for ways to get more out of my morning workout and eating the right breakfast might be my newfound secret. I was psyched to read that eating a breakfast made with “slow-release” carbohydrates, such as oatmeal or bran cereal, 3 hours before I exercise may help me burn more fat, according to a recent study. Here’s why: in the study eating “slow-release” carbohydrates didn’t spike blood sugar as high as eating refined carbohydrates, such as white toast. In turn, insulin levels didn’t spike as high and because insulin plays a role in signaling your body to store fat, having lower levels may help you burn fat.
