Are you loading your dishwasher wrong?

March 18, 2010 By: bozobouffe Category: Uncategorized

My husband and I are divided when it comes to loading the dishwasher. My methodology is aimed at space efficiency: I line up all the plates on one side, all the cups on the other, and anything random/big in the middle.

His technique, or lack of, is completely haphazard—he just throws things in the machine in the first empty spot he sees (which means only about about half as many dishes fit).

The truth about antioxidants

March 18, 2010 By: bozobouffe Category: Uncategorized

Antioxidants – including vitamins A, C, E, and beta-carotene – are potent free-radical fighters, and health food stores are stocked with antioxidant-rich multivitamins and supplements. But how much of the news about these disease-defying vitamins is fact, and how much is fiction?

We checked up on four claims:

So before you peel that carrot here are some produce part tips.

I can’t remember the last time I peeled a carrot or a parsnip. The peel or outer layer of any fruit and vegetable has a concentration of antioxidants that protect the plant from disease. Eat pie on Pi Day

March 14, 2010 By: bozobouffe Category: Uncategorized

Happy Pi Day! Find out about Pi Day.

Pi Day and Pi Approximation Day are two holidays held to celebrate the mathematical constant π (pi) (in the mm/dd date notation: 3/14); since 3, 1 and 4 are the first three decimal digits of π. March 14 is also the birthday of Albert Einstein and the two events are sometimes celebrated together.

There are a large variety of ways of celebrating Pi Day and most of them include eating pie and discussing the relevance of π.[1] The first Pi Day celebration was held at the San Francisco Exploratorium in 1988, with staff and public marching around one of its circular spaces, then consuming fruit pies. The museum has since added pizza to its Pi Day menu.[2] The founder of Pi Day was Larry Shaw,[3] a now-retired physicist at the Exploratorium who still helps out with the celebrations.

ReTrain Your Tastebuds

March 14, 2010 By: bozobouffe Category: Uncategorized

ruth is, your DNA alone doesn’t dictate what you like (and don’t like). Even after decades of hiding uneaten peas, you can learn to prefer healthy foods. This writer’s husband did just that—and lost 55 pounds. Here’s how.

When I met my husband Jack nine years ago, he was three sizes larger (XXL) than he is now. On one of our first dates, I watched in silent horror as he inhaled a huge slice of pizza piled with pepperoni, sausage and extra cheese—washing it down with Dr. Pepper. I was (still am) a vegetarian and a registered dietitian who teaches people how to eat well. I soon discovered that, more than pizza, Jack loved deep-fried tacos. He rarely touched fruit. Most of the vegetables he ate were battered and fried.

March 14, 2010 By: bozobouffe Category: Uncategorized

MONTREAL — Java junkies who win a Toyota RAV4 in the latest Tim Hortons roll-up-the-rim contest shouldn’t have to worry about the 2010 Toyotas r-r-rolling out of control down the highway.

Company official David Gollom says the 2010 RAV4 was part of the recall, but that any problems with the model would have been corrected.
