With the London Games approaching, athletes are warned not to eat large portions of one item.

With the London Olympics quickly approaching, the United Kingdom Anti-Doping Association warned athletes to avoid foods that will make an athlete test positive on a drug screening. The top of that list? Liver, which can increase the risk of an athlete testing positive for anabolic agent clenbuterol.
The Food Standard Agency, a British government agency similar to the Food and Drug Administration in the U.S., advised athletes against eating liver.
“The FSA cannot rule out the possibility that if a large portion of liver is consumed containing clenbuterol at permitted residue limits, urine collected shortly after consumption may contain detectable levels of clenbuterol. This depends on many factors including the amount consumed, the timing of the urine test and the analytical methods used.”
Food has played a part in positive drug tests in the past. Tong Wen, an Olympic gold medalist weightlifter from China, blamed pork chops when she tested positive for clenbuterol. Spanish cyclist Alberto Contado also tested positive for clenbuterol, and blamed a steak.

One of the easiest ways to get the perfect, fluffy egg is not to use a pot at all.

Poached eggs were once a dish I indulged in only at restaurants.
Why? Whenever I attempted the feat of making them at home, I would wind up with either an unfortunate runny mess or a hardened lump that hardly lived up to my culinary ideal.
But then I learned a few simple tricks and the mystery of the poached egg was revealed. Deceptively elegant, firm whites offset by yummy runny yolk, a perfectly poached egg can perk up any meal, whether breakfast or dinner.

One lemonade packs 78 grams of sugar, which is nearly as much as two cans of Cherry Coke.

For any good, diet-abiding citizen, a simple trip to the supermarket or convenience store can easily feel like a tap dance across a minefield of temptations – having to narrowly skirt well-concealed calorie-bombs at nearly every turn.
Areas like the frozen foods aisle and the chips and cookies shelves are obvious danger zones for the health-conscious shopper, but be careful not to overlook the potential diet pitfalls sitting in those beverage-stocked cold cases. From juices and iced teas to flavored milks and protein shakes, drinks can often be like the evil ninja warriors of dieting.

Numerous pieces of fruit rain down on a small British city, covering streets and cars.

More than 100 apples mysteriously rained down upon a small British town on Monday night. The still-unexplained apple shower left 20 yards of city streets and car windshields covered in the cascading fruit just after the daily rush hour.
The news immediately brought up comparisons to biblical tales of raining frogs and whether such reported freaks of nature actually occurred. In this instance, no one has officially confirmed when, how or if the apple storm truly took place as described.

A mom refuses to buy her favorite drink after learning about its questionable contents.

Natalya Murakhver, a New York food writer and mother of an 18-month year old daughter, loved her premium brand orange juice — the “100 percent pure” and “not from concentrate” kind that comes in the colorful carton and tastes consistently delicious.
That is, until she said she learned from her first-time moms group that there’s a “secret ingredient” in all premium orange juices that companies are not required to put on their labeling.

This simulated calculation of your yearly afternoon food bill may surprise you.

I’m what you would call frugally motivated. As a working single parent I have to manage my expenses on a tight budget. I’ve learned to look at food as a necessity not a luxury.
Since mastering this ideology I’ve managed to close the big black hole where my money used to get sucked into. It was relatively easy to adapt. I was already taking the time to pack a lunch for my son. I just had to pick up some extra groceries to have on hand. These days I’m making my own food 95% of the time. I’m eating fresh quality food that’s prepared healthy and tailored to my tastes. For a little extra effort I eat much better than my colleagues that opt to buy lunches. And at the end of the month my costs are negligible compared to theirs.
Have you looked at your lunch habits lately? Are you eating take-out every day because you don’t see the value in ‘green bagging’ your own lunch from home? Consider a more health conscious and economical alternative.

Expect the Unexpected
We’ve all been there: You head out to dinner with a friend, a ballpark amount in mind that you want to spend. It’s not a coincidence.
Smart restaurant owners know how to boost their profits by using subtle strategies that encourage you to spend more. Here, a restaurant insider and a behavioral psychologist dish about these secrets, so you won’t fall for them.

Kelloggs disputes the report after five of their popular titles rank in the top 10 breakfasts for most sugar.

A bowl of some popular brands of breakfast cereal contains more sugar than three chocolate chip cookies, according to a study released on Wednesday.
A study from the Environmental Working Group, a Washington, D.C.-based health information non-profit, found that one cup of any of 44 children’s breakfast cereals has more sugar than three “Chips Ahoy!” cookies.
The worst cereal for sugar is Kellogg’s Honey Smacks, at nearly 56 percent sugar by weight, according to EWG’s analysis. A one cup serving of Honey Smacks contains more sugar than a Hostess Twinkie, the report found.
