An Ariz. woman who says she made an alarming discovery gets a stern warning from the company.

CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) — An Arizona mother of four has received a hand-delivered letter from a lawyer prohibiting her from setting foot in eight Phoenix-area McDonald’s and threatening her with criminal trespassing charges if she did.

Chandler resident Erin Carr-Jordan has been on a national crusade to clean up fast-food play areas, claiming the pathogens she found in them threaten children’s health. She is also an Arizona State University Instructor.

Carr-Jordan tells The Arizona Republic the incident she believes led to the lawyer’s letter happened during one of her repeated visits to a Gilbert McDonald’s. Carr-Jordan alleges she discovered antibiotic-resistant Staph or MRSA, known to cause potentially life-threatening infections in the restaurant’s PlayPlace.

Schools look to ban chocolate milk

May 11, 2011 By: bozobouffe Category: Uncategorized

Major school districts are taking action, but many nutritionists question the crackdown.

Chocolate milk has long been seen as the spoonful of sugar that makes the medicine go down, but the nation’s childhood obesity epidemic has a growing number of people wondering whether that’s wise.

With schools under increasing pressure to offer healthier food, the staple on children’s cafeteria trays has come under attack over the very ingredient that makes it so popular — sugar.

Some school districts have gone as far as prohibiting flavored milk, and Florida considered a statewide ban in schools. Other districts have sought a middle ground by replacing flavored milks containing high-fructose corn syrup with versions containing sugar, which some see as a more natural sweetener.

A city where Happy Meals are banned

November 06, 2010 By: bozobouffe Category: Uncategorized

Fast food giant McDonald’s said Wednesday it was “extremely disappointed” at a ruling by San Francisco authorities banning high-calorie Happy Meals, which entice children to eat with free toys.

The response came after the Californian city’s board of supervisors voted to forbid restaurants from giving gifts with meals that contain too much fat and sugar.

“We are extremely disappointed with this decision. It?s not what our customers want, nor is it something they asked for,” said McDonald’s spokeswoman Danya Proud.

The end of Sushi?

DOHA — Atlantic bluefin tuna is in crisis and clearly meets the criteria for a total ban on international trade, the head of the UN wildlife trade organisation said on Saturday.

“The secretariat believes the species (Thunnus thynnus) meets the criteria for Appendix I” of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), said Secretary General Willem Wijnsteker in opening the convention’s triennial meeting in Qatar.

He said this conclusion “has been confirmed by the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation and the scientific committee of the ICCAT,” the inter-governmental fishery group that manages tuna stocks in the Atlantic and adjacent seas.
