March 04, 2011 By: bozobouffe Category: Uncategorized

Weight loss is a lot easier when you choose this healthy snack to fill you up.

Ever grab a snack but then feel hungry again 20 minutes later? Next time, reach for a banana. It’s loaded with Resistant Starch (RS), a healthy carb that fills you up and helps to boost your metabolism. Slightly underripe medium-sized bananas have 12.5 grams of RS—more than most other foods. Ripe bananas give you 4.7 grams of RS, still enough to keep hunger pangs away. Check out these tasty ways to work in this wonder food.

Creating a vending machine for bananas

October 23, 2010 By: bozobouffe Category: Uncategorized

The big push for vending machines to sell healthier snacks has overlooked something: It isn’t easy for a machine to deliver an unbruised banana.

The Wittern Group Inc., one of the biggest makers of vending machines, and fruit and vegetable marketer Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. say they are tackling this problem with a new machine specifically designed to dispense whole bananas and fresh-cut fruits and vegetables.

Banana-Ice Cream Injector Patent

March 29, 2010 By: bozobouffe Category: Uncategorized

Someone named P. Marchio filed this patent for a “banana extractor and ice cream injector” in 1932. What a wonderful idea! Unfortunately, there’s no evidence that this was ever actually made, nor is there any sign that a banana with ice cream in it will ever replace the classic banana split.

Nine bananas a day keeps PM’s poll blues at bay?

February 08, 2010 By: bozobouffe Category: Uncategorized

LONDON (AFP) – Election fever is mounting and Prime Minister Gordon Brown is preparing himself for the campaign trail by eating up to nine bananas a day, a report said on Monday.

Brown is convinced fruit can bring “radiance,” a spokesman said, while declining to confirm a report in the Sun that the premier is scoffing the fruit as an alternative to his favourite KitKat bars.

Brown is gearing up for an uphill battle to hold on to power against the main opposition Conservatives, in elections due before June but expected on May 6.

“The prime minister has always taken the view that a balanced diet is very important,” Brown’s spokesman told reporters on Monday, neither denying nor confirming the banana story.

He added: “Portions of fruit and veg taken on a daily basis can only lead to good health and radiance.”

Questioned about the amount of fruit Brown was eating, he said that any numbers were pure “speculation”.

Bananas have been risky political accessories since Foreign Secretary David Miliband was snapped brandishing one two years ago, in a photo that was widely mocked and undermined his hopes of leading the ruling Labour party.
