Consider the potato: It’s heavy. It’s brown. It’s gnarly. It grows in the dirt. It’s hardly the most appealing food on earth.

Now consider the Pringle: It’s light. It’s golden. It’s crispy. And it comes in a can! A tremendous improvement on the earthbound spud, right? Except for one thing: Pringles aren’t potatoes.

Batch of Lay’s chips pulled from shelves

OTTAWA — The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public not to consume some potato chips because the products may be contaminated with salmonella.

It says the foods contain dry powder and paste hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP), ingredients which have been recalled in the U.S. and Canada by Basic Food Flavors Inc. due to salmonella contamination.
