An Ariz. woman who says she made an alarming discovery gets a stern warning from the company.

CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) — An Arizona mother of four has received a hand-delivered letter from a lawyer prohibiting her from setting foot in eight Phoenix-area McDonald’s and threatening her with criminal trespassing charges if she did.

Chandler resident Erin Carr-Jordan has been on a national crusade to clean up fast-food play areas, claiming the pathogens she found in them threaten children’s health. She is also an Arizona State University Instructor.

Carr-Jordan tells The Arizona Republic the incident she believes led to the lawyer’s letter happened during one of her repeated visits to a Gilbert McDonald’s. Carr-Jordan alleges she discovered antibiotic-resistant Staph or MRSA, known to cause potentially life-threatening infections in the restaurant’s PlayPlace.

Country opens its very first McDonald’s

Though it is hard to believe, this nation is set to take a bite out of the golden arches for the first time.

It took four years, a lot of red tape and a little local jealousy but the Big Mac is the new hero on Marshal Tito street in downtown Sarajevo and, for many, a milestone in Bosnia’s post-war recovery.

In the week since the country got its very first McDonald’s, crowds — mainly young people under 40 — have poured non-stop into the gleaming new franchise of the US food giant.

“It is a step towards Europe, which seems really far away from here,” said client Admir Ceco, tucking into a cheeseburger.

The splashy opening last week drew hundreds of eager Sarajevans who lined up on the main thoroughfare named after the late communist dictator to get a taste of the West, via American-style hamburgers and fries.

Wisonsin Man eats 25,000th Big Mac

A retired prison guard ate his 25,000th Big Mac on Tuesday, 39 years to the day after eating his first … nine.

Don Gorske was honoured after reaching the meaty milestone during a ceremony at a McDonald’s in his hometown of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Surely McDonald’s most loyal customer, Guinness World Records recognized Gorske’s feat three years and 2,000 Big Macs ago, and the 57-year-old says he has no desire to stop.

“I plan on eating Big Macs until I die,” he said. “I have no intentions of changing. It’s still my favourite food. Nothing has changed in 39 years. I look forward to it every day.”

The sign beneath the golden arches Tuesday read “Congrats Don Gorske 25000 Big Macs.”

A surprising competitor overtakes McDonald’s for the most locations worldwide.

It’s official: the Subway sandwich chain has surpassed McDonald’s Corp. (NYSE: MCD – News) as the world’s largest restaurant chain, in terms of units.

At the end of last year, Subway had 33,749 restaurants worldwide, compared to McDonald’s 32,737. The burger giant disclosed its year-end store count in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing late last month.

The race for global dominance is an important one for an industry that’s mostly saturated in the U.S. High unemployment and economic uncertainty have battered the restaurant industry in the U.S., and chains are increasingly looking overseas for growth, particularly in Asia.

Fast food king quashes a social media push to have this unique sandwich offered up nationally.

Following the unexpected return of the Shamrock Shake, the elusive seasonal offering added to McDonald’s menus across Canada for the first time since a fleeting reappearance in 2008, Twitter was alight this week with hopes for a continent-wide rollout of the McLobster.

The discussion appeared to be seeded by an impersonator of comedian Chris Rock, who currently boasts more than 53,000 followers: “The McDonald’s employee who came up with the idea of the McLobster,” he tweeted, “needs to get punched in his chest ’til he breaks a McRib.”

McRib, introduced by McDonald’s in 1981, returned to U.S. restaurants last fall after a four-year hiatus, with help from social media dialogue that focused on just how ridiculous the sandwich was.

McNuggets may conjure up an image of breaded pieces of sliced chicken breast, but they are hardly that.

It seems Melodi Dushane of Toledo, Ohio, wasn’t concerned about dimethyl polysiloxane or tertiary butylhydroquinone in her Chicken McNuggets, or about the allegation that they were made of 56 per cent corn. Even though it was 6:30 a.m., she had to have them. When told the nuggets were not available at that time of the morning, Dushane went into a frenzy and began to pummel the drive-thru employee before smashing a window with a beer bottle and driving off.

Latreasa Goodman of Florida took a different approach when told that her McDonald’s had run out of Chicken McNuggets. When the server offered a hamburger instead, she became so enraged that she proceeded to dial 911 to report a fast food “emergency.”

Even as its U.S. parent bows to consumer demand for healthier products, McDonald’s in Japan is ladling on the calories—an unusual strategy in a country known for its healthy diet and longevity.

Japan’s top restaurant chain by number of stores, McDonald’s Holdings Co. (Japan) Ltd. rolled out its Big America 2 campaign last week, featuring four burgers named after U.S. locales. The Idaho burger, which will make its debut by the end of this month, features a quarter-pound beef patty, melted cheese, a deep-fried hash brown, strips of bacon, onions and pepper-and-mustard sauce. The calorie count: 713.

An assistant manager at a fast food restaurant loses her job after helping out Adrian Peterson

An assistant manager at McDonald’s was fired after allowing Minnesota Vikings starAdrian Peterson to use the bathroomwhile the restaurant was closed.

While working the late-night drive-thru shift at 3 a.m., a female employee encountered a man standing outside the window who asked to come inside and use the restroom. After a little while, she realized it was the popular Minnesota Vikings star and opened the door for him to come inside and use the facilities. (The seating area at the restaurant is normally closed during the late-night hours.)

A city where Happy Meals are banned

Fast food giant McDonald’s said Wednesday it was “extremely disappointed” at a ruling by San Francisco authorities banning high-calorie Happy Meals, which entice children to eat with free toys.

The response came after the Californian city’s board of supervisors voted to forbid restaurants from giving gifts with meals that contain too much fat and sugar.

“We are extremely disappointed with this decision. It?s not what our customers want, nor is it something they asked for,” said McDonald’s spokeswoman Danya Proud.
