Do mini-meals really help you lose weight?

January 22, 2012 By: bozobouffe Category: Uncategorized

A new study finally sets the record straight about eating three vs. six meals a day.

Which will help me slim down-6 mini meals or 3 squares? I get this question a lot, especially from people who are trying to slim down, because I’m a registered dietitian and nutrition editor of EatingWell Magazine. It’s a common question, especially among dieters looking to get an extra edge on their weight loss.

Researchers say this filling dish is ideal for tough times and only costs 12 cents.

Times are tough in Canada, but is the economy bad enough to eat a toast sandwich?

Scientists from the Royal Society of Chemistry in the U.K. are calling the sandwich (which costs the equivalent of 12 cents Canadian), the cheapest meal.

It is a slice of toast between two pieces of buttered bread with salt and pepper. Although according to the Guardian, it can also be one untoasted piece between two toasted pieces.

June 07, 2011 By: bozobouffe Category: Uncategorized

Trainer Harley Pasternak started out as a Canadian hockey player and later became an exercise scientist for the Department of National Defense. While he was getting his PhD in exercise physiology, he cornered the market on training celebrities who were shooting in Toronto.Halle Berry asked him to come to California to get her in shape for “Catwoman,” and his sabbatical turned into a fitness empire. Pasternaks client list includes Lady Gaga,Katy PerryJennifer Hudson, andAmanda Seyfried, as well as “Twilight’s”Ashley Greene and Robert Pattinson. His specialty is effective, efficient regimens that can be done by busy people with little time or space, i.e. movie stars on location as well as busy new moms. I spoke to Harley about his top five tips for getting your best possible body.

1. Eat five meals a day. “You’re never hungry. You’re eating because it’s time to eat, not because you have to eat. So you have more control over what you eat and how much you eat. From a metabolism perspective it’s like a windmill. Small gusts of wind throughout the day keep the windmill constantly spinning. It’s a more effective machine.”

A city where Happy Meals are banned

November 06, 2010 By: bozobouffe Category: Uncategorized

Fast food giant McDonald’s said Wednesday it was “extremely disappointed” at a ruling by San Francisco authorities banning high-calorie Happy Meals, which entice children to eat with free toys.

The response came after the Californian city’s board of supervisors voted to forbid restaurants from giving gifts with meals that contain too much fat and sugar.

“We are extremely disappointed with this decision. It?s not what our customers want, nor is it something they asked for,” said McDonald’s spokeswoman Danya Proud.

The worst fast-food meals in America

July 09, 2010 By: bozobouffe Category: Uncategorized

As a kid growing up in the early ’80s, I made every mistake in the book. I ate fast food instead of smart food. I played video games when I should’ve been playing outside. By the time I reached age 14, I was carrying 212 pounds on a 5’10″ frame. (I wanted to be built like a basketball player, but instead was shaped more like a basketball.)

Beat the heat with no-cook dinners

June 29, 2010 By: bozobouffe Category: Uncategorized

When it’s 90 degrees outside, the last thing you want to do is fire up your oven. Even if the air conditioning is blasting, it still seems wrong to waste energy cooling down the kitchen in the summer. Thankfully, there are plenty of healthy, delicious meals you can put together without preheating the oven, turning on a burner, or even standing over a flaming outdoor grill in the sweltering heat. Here are ten of my favorite “no-cook” dinners to keep you feeling cool all season long:
